The journey is all about growth. Here’s the continuation of what I’ve discovered. It’s my prayer that it will offer some light for my children, nieces and nephews, and every other young person out there.

Acceptance is transcendent

This is a big one. It forms the foundation of our human experience. When we don’t accept what is, we live in a continuous state of disconnect. It’s this disconnect that causes us pain. So much pain. You’re single. Accept. You have to repeat a year. Accept. You don’t live in a big house. Accept. But here’s the thing. Acceptance does not mean that you don’t get to do anything about it. You have the power to change your circumstances. Get on with that. Just don’t waste your time and energy wallowing in misery about your current reality.

You’re not your past

Whatever has happened to you is an occurrence, a moment in time that is gone forever. Yes, some of these are traumatic. Extremely traumatic. So, this is not asking anyone to forget or ignore what has happened. But this does not define you. Continuously reliving the past is how we get stuck there. The other thing to know and understand is that every soul experiences trauma. Once we are comfortable with this, it gives us a sense of community. Everyone is dealing with something. Forget ‘appearances’.

We don’t choose family

Family is our channel into the human realm. Sometimes this can be painful. Sometimes this can be hugely gratifying. Family gives us some of our biggest, hardest lessons. These will also be the best as they’ve been ordained for you. We don’t have a choice but to go through these lessons, get them and then move on. Sometimes it’s a physical move. Sometimes it’s emotional. You don’t get to choose your family. But here’s the amazing news, you get to choose everyone else around you. Make wise choices.

Living in the moment is everything

There is only life in the present moment. Right now. This instant. Whenever I think about this, Eckhart Tolle always comes to mind. He believes that if one truly lives in every moment, there’s never a reason for photographs. That makes sense on a visceral level and even though I’m not a fanatical photographer and or poster, I cannot bring myself to let go of pics. I have tons of work to do. And I know I’m not alone. This December, I only took 82 photos and videos (and not hundreds) during our holiday in Mpumalanga. Progress.

You are powerful

Not powerful as the world understands. Powerful as Divine. The power of the world is nothing compared to the power of the Universe. When you understand that you are Spirit, your power is limitless. The freedom is illuminating. The heaviness of expectation falls away and we’re free to live our best lives.

The journey is not linear

We must stop expecting things to happen for all of us at the same time. It’s one of my biggest issues with the school system today. Every child must follow the same curriculum, write the same tests and exams, and complete school at the same age. Basically, follow the same path. And the world needs creativity and innovation. Shame. We’ll have to park that one if we continue with more of the same.

Life is complex, there’s no straightforward journey. We’re continually learning what’s unique to each of us. Some of us have to go back again and again, repeat the same experiences until we get what we came here for. Few of us get our lessons at the first go. Live with it. Embrace it. Love it. And enjoy the ride!
