“If only I won the lottery”… if you have never had that thought, congratulations, you are a rare human. Most of us carry some belief that more money will soften life. Money matters, of course. It pays for the things we need and the comforts we have learned to enjoy. But is it really the solution to our problems?
Research shows that many lottery winners lose their fortunes within a few years, often ending up financially worse than before. Money can help, but it does not magically create ease or joy. We only have to look around to see how many people, online and in real life, are overwhelmed despite having more than enough.
Yes, you can do the collagen, the superfoods, crossfit or whatever exercise craze is trending, plus the supplements and the self-care rituals. You can do your hair and nails, buy new clothes and accessories, whatever “makes you happy”. But just like money, none of it reaches the part of us that is actually tired or aching. At least, that’s what I believe.
So what do we really need?
Not what we have been taught to want. As women, we have been told that how we look is everything, and how we behave matters even more. That message starts young. It is no surprise that so many women ‘fawn’ their way through life, brushing off the inappropriate comments, jokes, advances. We giggle, we ignore, we try to stay agreeable. The need to be likeable runs deep, and it leaves many of us carrying far more than we should. We take on more and more under the patriarchal guise of “having it all”.
What a farce. There’s no winning. There’s no medal at the finish line, just exhaustion and deep discontent. Burnout, chronic stress, immune issues, and the sense that we are slowly wearing ourselves down in ways that our ancestors never imagined.
There’s another way to do this. There has to be.
It’s not only women who are buckling under society’s illogical expectations. No-one is spared. Even those who try to fit the roles they’ve been handed often feel trapped, unable to say they are struggling or ask for help.
Where is the exit?
It’s in the simple things. The ones that do not cost money and are often right in front of us. For me, it has been the deliberate removal of external noise. Every second, our brains take in almost a billion bits of information, yet only a tiny amount reaches awareness. The rest settles into the subconscious, which is why choosing what we let in makes all the difference.
Here are three things you can weave into your daily experience:
- Breathe. The very thing that keeps us alive is the one thing many of us rarely do well. Deep, intentional breaths, in and out through the nose, trigger immediate calm.
- Be still. Find moments for yourself where you can notice how you feel and how your body is communicating, without judgement. Start with one minute, then increase as it supports you. Stillness is one of the simplest ways I know to soften energy.
- Move. It does not matter how. Run, walk, dance, skip, swim. Just move your body. And enjoy doing it! One of my favourite sayings is, “You are not a tree. Move.” It transcends the physical body. You also need to ‘move’ the beliefs and values that keep you stuck.
The best things in life are free.
Janet Jackson and Luther Vandross said it and I agree, the best things in life are free. We do get to choose our happy. That’s where it all starts and ends.
Dear heart, it’s not what you have or don’t have, or even what you look like, it’s how you feel. And guess what happens when you feel good? You glow! Your energy radiates outward like a satellite tower, broadcasting your unique frequency to the world, which responds with high-energy, good vibes.
When that’s your focus in 2026, you’re on the path to embody the calm, peaceful, abundant life you’re entitled to. Here’s to a year of new beginnings, transformation, and change.
